The organizing basis of this residence is driven by the narrow geometry of the site as well as the proximity and scale of the neighboring residences. The complete code-permitted envelope is arranged into a slender rectangular body facilitating views towards the bay from every room in the plan and maximizing the penetration of daylight.
The initial shape of the plan was a bar divided into 5 equal parts to simplify the structure. The fourth cube is pulled to the eastern buildable line of the property as a strategy to further increase the penetration of natural light into the interior areas of the plan. It also opens up a green garden courtyard on the western side of the house and it defines the side yard area of the plan
The open plan layout of this home contains a minimal amount of interior partitions and an array of operable windows located at facing walls to increase the effectiveness of cross ventilation. Below the main level, a game room level is positioned strategically in the narrow portion of the building’s footprint to be passively cooled by cross ventilation during months of prevailing cool breezes.
